Artist Biography
Classically trained, Joan Brady draws deep inspiration from the natural world—especially the coast. Her artistic vision was profoundly affected by seven years spent on a remote island in Maine, and today, she finds comfort in the quieter rhythms of the Chesapeake Bay. A seeker of the sublime, Brady creates work that explores the undercurrents of quiet energy and hidden intensity that shape the visible world.
She holds a B.A. from Mount Holyoke College and an M.A.L.T. from Notre Dame of Maryland University, with additional training at the Schuler School of Fine Arts, Baltimore Clayworks, with Matthew Zoll, and several other master artists. Her wide-ranging body of work includes paintings, ceramics, murals, and trompe l’oeil, and can be found in locations such as the Henry DuPont Winterthur Museum, The Hotel Hershey, and The Monhegan Island Inn.
Beyond the studio, Brady is a committed arts advocate. She shares her passion for the creative process by managing Providence Pottery and Arts Studio in Arnold, MD. Her work has been featured in many exhibitions, as well as in Better Homes and Gardens Magazine and on Lifetime Television. In 2024, she was both Artist in Residence at Maryland Hall and juried into Paint Annapolis. A juried member of Oil Painters of America, and a member of Maryland Federation of Art, she also serves on the Annapolis Arts in Public Places Commission, working to support dynamic and accessible public art.
